Panoramic X-Rays

Dental x-rays are a valuable part of dental treatment because they can detect damage to teeth and gums not visible during a routine checkup.

Panoramic radiography, also called panoramic x-ray, is a two-dimensional (2-D) dental x-ray examination that captures the entire mouth in a single image including the teeth, upper and lower jaws, surrounding structures and tissues.

It can also reveal dental and medical problems such as

  • Advanced periodontal disease
  • Cysts in the jaw bones
  • Jaw tumors and oral cancer
  • Impacted teeth including wisdom teeth
  • Jaw disorders (also known as temporomandibular joint or TMJ disorders)
  • Sinusitis

Our Dentsply Sirona Pan/Ceph is made in Germany and offers a very small dose of ionizing radiation to capture the entire mouth in one image. The images are very precise – and it is possible to adjust the radiation dose depending on age and body stature of our patients.

We only prescribe panoramic x-rays when they are appropriate, and their frequency is tailored to our patient’s individual needs.
